Privacy policy

1. Controller

The controller for data processing in connection with the operation of this website is:
Name / company, address, email contact@example.com (see Imprint).

Note: CLEAR is a beta prototype. This policy describes the actual scope of functionality; the provider details must be completed before any release.

2. End-to-end encryption — the key stays on your device (core principle)

All content data you enter in CLEAR is encrypted on your device before it is stored anywhere. This includes in particular:

• your start date and personal reasons,
• daily check-ins (mood, sleep, energy, stress),
• journal entries,
• logged craving episodes,
• your emergency plan including contacts you add yourself.

The key required for this never leaves your device over the network. An optional backup/sync stores your data solely as unreadable ciphertext on a European server (zero-knowledge). The provider — that is, us too — cannot decrypt it, because the key is yours alone. When switching devices you transfer the key via QR code directly device to device (Settings → “Switch device”).

Deleting via “Delete all data” destroys the key on your device (crypto-shredding): any encrypted server copy and backups then become permanently and irreversibly unreadable.

3. Beta login

The prototype is protected by a fixed demo access. On sign-in, only a technical status (“logged in”) is stored locally on your device. No credentials are transmitted to or checked by a server.

4. Provision of the website / server log files (hosting)

The website is hosted by Vercel Inc. (340 S Lemon Ave #4133, Walnut, CA 91789, USA). When you access the site, the host processes technically necessary connection data (e.g. IP address, time of access, file requested, amount of data transferred, browser type) to ensure delivery and security of the website. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in a stable, secure provision). A data processing agreement is in place with the provider; the EU Standard Contractual Clauses are used for the transfer of data to the USA. Details: Vercel Privacy Policy.

5. No marketing cookies, no tracking

CLEAR uses no tracking or marketing cookies and no analytics or advertising services. Only technically necessary storage mechanisms (localStorage) are used to provide the app's features.

6. Service worker & offline use

For offline capability, a service worker caches program and design files in your browser's cache. No personal content data is processed in doing so.

7. Fonts and images

Fonts are served locally from our server (no calls to Google servers). All images are also served from our server; no external image CDNs are called. For sources see Image credits.

8. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the rights to access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and objection (Art. 21), as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77).

• Access & portability: as your content data is stored locally only, you can back it up yourself at any time via Settings → Export data as a file.
• Erasure: via Settings → Delete all data or by clearing your browser's site data.

9. A wellness offering, not medical treatment

CLEAR is explicitly a wellness and self-help offering and not medical treatment, diagnosis or therapy. It does not replace medical or psychotherapeutic care. Alcohol withdrawal can be dangerous — if you have physical withdrawal symptoms, please seek medical help; in an emergency call your local emergency number.

10. Changes

We adapt this privacy policy when the scope of functionality or the legal situation changes. The version published on this page applies.
